The sculpture, known as Science Advancing Mankind, depicts 'Science' as a benign robot bending forward to nudge a male and female figure, i.e. 'humanity,' toward a brighter future. Woodruff's husband served as treasurer for the Century of Progress board of trustees in 1933.
