Architecture and Arts Oral History Project 20 objects
This collection contains sound files and transcripts of oral history interviews conducted with former Art and Architecture faculty members. The collection was created by Eileen Broido, working on a celebration of the history of the College in 2007. It also contains some biographical information compiled by Broido.


Bethlehem Howell Neighborhood Center collection 160 objects
Bethlehem Center and Howell House were church-related neighborhood houses serving the Pilsen area on the Near West Side. They provided religious, social services, and personal welfare assistance to an immigrant community composed predominantly of Bohemians, Poles, and Czechs. The two centers cooperated throughout their history, merging in 1961 as the Neighborhood Service Organization. The Neighborhood Service Organization, popularly known as Casa Aztlan, continues to serve the Pilsen area.


Beverly Area Planning Association records 237 objects
The Beverly Area Planning Association (BAPA) was founded in 1947 as an umbrella agency of residential and business associations in the Beverly Hills/Morgan Park neighborhood in Southwest Chicago. The collection includes materials reflecting the administration, programming and advocacy efforts of the Beverly Area Planning Association between 1967 and 1972.


Black History Collection 16 objects
This collection offers a variety of materials pertaining to African American experiences, mostly from 20th century black freedom movement groups, including the Civil Rights Movement, Black Panthers, SNCC, black cultural figures, and other Chicago-based activists. Materials include periodicals, audio reels, letters, transcripts, brochures, and clippings.


C. William Brubaker Collection 2369 objects
During the 1960s through 1990s, architect and photographer Charles William “Bill” Brubaker (1926-2002) photographically documented examples of significant architecture and design of the urban environment in the Chicago area and in other cities that he lived in or visited. This collection consists of slides taken by Brubaker.


Richard F. Casper military research collection 12 objects
The Richard F. Casper Military History Collection comprises artifacts and manuscripts about the military. The digital collection is a small portion, consisting of several illustrated pamphlets showing military uniforms from several nations.


A Century of Progress memorabilia collection 132 objects
A Century of Progress International Exposition was held in Chicago during the summers of 1933 and 1934 to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the incorporation of the city of Chicago in 1833. The A Century of Progress Memorabilia collection includes printed materials such as pamphlets, brochures, maps, photographs and souvenirs.


A Century of Progress records 1642 objects
A Century of Progress International Exposition was held in Chicago during the summers of 1933 and 1934 to commemorate the incorporation of the city in 1833. This collection consists of the extant operating records of A Century Progress World's Fair.


Chicago Aerial Photographic Services collection 40 objects
The Chicago Aerial Photographic Services company conducted aerial surveys of the Chicago region from the 1930s to the early 2000s. This collection provides thousands of high resolution aerial photographs of the region over several decades.


Chicago Area Pharmacy Photographs 131 objects
This collection of 35 mm color slides of Chicago and suburban drugstores was created by an unidentified photographer in 1955. It depicts pharmacies in various Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs. This collection was donated by Dr. Richard J. Anzalone, an alumnus of the College of Pharmacy, and retired Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice.

The Chicago Flame was an independent student-run newspaper serving the University of Illinois at Chicago community from 1988-2011. It contains information about student activities, sports, and campus organizations and issues.

Chicago Urban League Records 1422 objects
Founded in 1910, the National Urban League is one of the oldest African American social service, research, and advocacy organizations in the United States. This collection primarily contains materials generated or collected by the Chicago Urban League. It documents the history, leadership, activities, social services provided by and the mission of the Chicago Urban League.


College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago – Class Photos 26 objects
This is a collection of composite photographs of past graduating classes of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago. The images date from 1882 through 1912. All photographs are black and white and feature head shots of members of the class with their names. In some cases, members of the College faculty or administration are included in the composites.

The Cook County School of Nursing Records digital collection includes imagery from the Illinois Training School for Nurses, the Cook County Hospital and Health Hospitals Governing Commission of Cook County.

Use of the Bob Crawford collection is limited to UIC students, faculty and staff, and to on-campus visitors. This collection includes Bob Crawford's recordings of Chicago mayors and political figures from the 1970s to the 1990s. Recordings include Harold Washington, Jane Byrne, Richard J. Daley and Richard M. Daley as well as Illinois politicians and Chicago City Council members.

The Richard J. Daley Collection documents the public offices, political career, and personal life of Daley and contains documents, publications, ephemera, memorabilia, artifacts, and photographs dating from 1870-2010. The bulk of the collection dates from Richard J. Daley’s six terms as mayor of the city of Chicago, and as Chairman of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee.

The Firman House was founded as an outreach mission in 1872 and became a sturctured, self-identified social service agency in 1927. This collection includes flyers, pamphlets and photographs.


Forest Preserve District of Cook County records 3053 objects
The Forest Preserve District of Cook County was created in 1914 with a mandate to “protect and preserve” the forests of Cook County. By 2004, the district had acquired more than 67,000 acres of forest lands. This collection contains the records of the district and other records and photographs that are relevant for the district’s history.

Since its founding in 1983, Gallery 400, a not-for-profit arts exhibition space at the University of Illinois Chicago, has presented exhibitions and programs that address a broad range of recent developments and aesthetic concerns and have included more than 1,000 artists to date.

This digital collection consists of scanned book jackets from the H.D. Carberry Collection of Caribbean Studies rare book collection. The works in this collection are generally first editions, many published in Britain during the second half of the twentieth century.


Charles Harrison papers 94 objects
Charles Harrison was a product designer and executive who worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for nearly 30 years, from 1961 to 1993. He was the first African-American executive to work at that company. The collection includes examples of Charles Harrison's work from his time at Sears.


Henry Booth House records 101 objects
The Henry Booth House was established in Chicago in May 1898 by the Ethical Humanist Society and named for the Society's first president, Judge Henry Booth. The Henry Booth House's founders sought to improve living conditions in the surrounding neighborhood, promote good citizenship, strengthen family life and the sense of community. The digital collection includes photographs from the collection.


Hull-House Association records 17 objects
In 1963, Hull-House, the world-famous social settlement house founded by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr, moved from its original location in the Near West Side of Chicago and decentralized its services. The newly restructured Hull House Association became the administrative entity overseeing a confederation of affiliated organizations that included former settlement houses, newly created community centers, and a myriad of program hosted in Hull House satellites. This collection primarily contains materials generated or collected by the central office of Hull House Association. It documents the history, leadership, activities, and mission of Hull House Association and its relationship to several of its affiliates.

The Hull-House collection consists of material documenting the history of Hull-House from its founding in 1889 until the mid 1960s when the settlement moved from its original location on Halsted Street.

The Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC) was founded in 1909 as part of the settlement house movement, to serve neglected or abandoned youth in Chicago's south side neighborhood of Hyde Park. The digital collection includes photographs pertaining to the programs and administration of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club.


Illinois Department of Transportation Traffic Photograph Collection 671 objects
The collection includes negatives and photographs generated by the Department of Public Works and Buildings from 1930 to 1960, which preceded the Illinois Department of Transportation. The records include negatives and photographs of traffic intersections along some of Chicago’s major roadways, surveys of Chicago Transit Authority bus stations, bridges and viaducts throughout Chicago, and various projects conducted by Illinois’ leading transportation agency in 1930s to 1950s.


Illinois Training School for Nurses records 11 objects
The Illinois Training School for Nurses (ITSN) was established September 21, 1880 by a group of prominent Chicago women dedicated to the prospect of training young women to care scientifically for the sick. Twenty-five directors, all female, headed the project. The records of the Illinois Training School for Nurses (ITSN) document the history of the school from its inception until well after it ceased operation.


Immigrants' Protective League Records, 1919-1967 138 objects
The Immigrants' Protective League was founded in 1908 as a resource for all new immigrants arriving in Chicago. The Immigrants' Protective League records contain reports, memoranda, case histories, affidavits, legislative bills, dissertations, press releases, resolutions, photographs, maps, addresses, statements, clippings, and articles.


Italian American Collection Records 29 objects
The Italian-American Collection was compiled as part of the "Italians in Chicago" project by the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle. The project was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and interviews were largely conducted during 1979 and 1980. Donations included photographs, booklets and pamphlets, as well as various other family memorabilia.


László Kondor Photograph Collection 886 objects
László Kondor was the official photographer for Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley from 1972 to 1976. The collection includes Kondor's photographic prints, negatives, and contact sheets of people, places, and events connected with the mayor. The collection also includes a small number of images of Mayor Michael Bilandic and Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Rodolfo “Rudy” Lozano, (1951 to 1983) was an activist and a community organizer in Chicago. The digital collection includes a small selection of videos and posters from the Rudy Lozano papers.

The Marcy-Newberry Association is a Methodist-supported social service center that has a long history of providing services to residents of the Near West and West Side of Chicago.


Emmett McBain design papers 66 objects
Emmett McBain became a prominent African American advertising designer, working as a designer for Vince Cullers and Associates, an art supervisor for J. W. Thompson in Detroit, and a creative consultant for Soft Sheen Products. This collection consists of various visual advertisements designed by McBain, primarily print ads, transparencies of bill boards and record album covers.


Navy Pier Negatives and Prints, 1946-1948 434 objects
This collection of photographs by Thomas Fehr contains images of the University of Illinois Chicago Undergraduate Division located at Navy Pier, including images of students and faculty activities, athletics, and events.


Off-The-Street Club records 148 objects
The Off-The-Street Club (OTSC), Chicago's oldest boys and girls club, is a club for children and young adults located on Chicago's west side. The collection pertains to OTSC programs and activities.


David Page Papers 1128 objects
The University of Illinois Arithmetic Project was created in the fall of 1958 and was directed by Professor David Page. Over a five year period the staff of this project created an entirely new elementary mathematics course including textbooks and suitable teaching aids. This collection includes titled worksheets that progressively increase in difficulty.


James Parker collection 755 objects
James S. Parker owned the firm Copelin Commercial Photographs that operated continuously in Chicago beginning in 1856. The collection's photographic negatives and prints extensively record Chicago's built environment.


Paul Peck Collection of Medical Art 447 objects
Paul Norman Peck, PhD. (1907-1982) was an influential medical illustrator who compiled numerous anatomy, pathology, and surgery atlases during his career. This collection includes least two medical atlases published by Merck & Co. The illustrations depict various body structures, functions, and ailments.


Puerto Rican Cultural Center collection 396 objects
Members of the Puerto Rican and Latinx community in Chicago established the non-proft Juan Antonio Corretjer Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC) in 1973 to address the social and cultural needs of the West Town and Humboldt Park community. The collection contains printed documents produced and published by the Puerto Rican Cultural Center including newspapers, flyers, programs, and books. Photographs, ephemera, and memorabilia from the center are also included.


Adrian Scheltes collection 66 objects
The Adrian Scheltes collection contains photographs either taken by or collected by Scheltes while he was the Supervisor of Counsel and Guidance for the Blind from the Illinois Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in the late 1940s and early 1950s.


Sheet Music collection 1429 objects
The Sheet Music collection consists of popular song sheets with illustrated covers dating from circa 1890 to 1928, with some titles dating back to and before the Civil War. Music from a wide variety of composers is represented, including some examples of early ragtime and blues.


Society of Typographic Arts 74 objects
This collection consists of the organizational records and design examples from the Society of Typographic Arts (STA), a Chicago-based organization of graphic design professionals. It includes STA publications, especially exhibition catalogs, and other materials.


Lea Demarest Taylor Papers 27 objects
Lea Demarest Taylor (1883-1975) was active in Chicago's social settlement movement. The collection contains correspondence, memos, articles, speeches, annual reports, minutes of meetings, and photographs. pertaining to operation and activities of Chicago Commons settlement house, the Chicago Federation of Settlements and the National Federation of Settlements. The collection also includes writing and publications by Graham Taylor, founder of Chicago Commons.


The Circle Yearbook 13 objects
Students at the Circle campus published an annual yearbook from 1966 through 1977. The final yearbook included the senior classes for both 1980 and 1981. The yearbooks were titled “The Circle Yearbook” with the exception of the the 1973 and 1980-81 editions. The 1973 edition was named “Circa: Chicago Circle Annual,” and the 1980-81 edition was “Concentric Circle.”
