Forest Preserve District of Cook County records

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County was created in 1914 with a mandate to “protect and preserve” the forests of Cook County. By 2004, the district had acquired more than 67,000 acres of forest lands. This collection contains the records of the district and other records and photographs that are relevant for the district’s history.

Original working map used by Dwight Perkins and possibly other members of the Forest Preserve District Plan Commission to decide on which Cook County lands to acquire for the new Forest Preserve District. The physical map was created in 1915, but the notations may have been made on the map any time between 1915 and 1926, when the Plan Commission was disbanded and replaced by the Forest Preserve District Advisory Committee.
