James Parker collection

James S. Parker owned the firm Copelin Commercial Photographs that operated continuously in Chicago beginning in 1856. The collection's photographic negatives and prints extensively record Chicago's built environment.

Many of the 35 mm negatives document damage and deterioration on Chicago's bridges, viaducts and underpasses that need repair though some frames provide a general view of the bridges at the time they were taken.
