This collection contains over 5,000 print photographs, negatives and artworks that pertain to Jane Addams, the Hull-House settlement house, Chicago's Near West Side, and other topics related to the history of Hull-House.

This collection is organized topically into five series:

  • Series I, "Jane Addams": This series primarily contains photographs of Jane Addams or her friends and family.
  • Series II, "Hull House": This series primarily contains photographs of Hull House, of Hull House residents, of Hull House patrons, or of activities sponsored by or affiliated with Hull House.
  • Series III, "Bowen Country Club and the Wisconsin Camp": The photographs in this series pertain primarily to the Bowen Country Club or to the Wisconsin Work Camp, both of which were efforts to introduce city residents to life in natural areas.
  • Series IV, "Other Topical Groupings": This series contains photographs organized around topics different from Jane Addams, Hull House, or the Bowen Country Club and Wisconsin Work Camp. These topics are arranged alphabetically and include the following: Henry Booth Committee; Hull House Day Camp; Jane Addams Center; Parkway Community House; Senior Centers; and Toynbee Hall.
  • Series V, "Negatives": This series contains over 5,000 negatives, most of which correspond to a print photograph.
