At the far right of the image is Armando's Restaurant, at Rush and East Superior Streets. A large sign for Club Alabam (747 North Rush Street), a dining and dance establishment, stands on the rooftops near the center of the image. On the left is the south facade - facing Chicago Avenue - of Water Tower Hyatt House hotel (originally Water Tower Inn). Part of the John Hancock Center is visible at the upper right.

The businesses on the east side of North Rush Street were demolished to make way for the Peninsula Hotel. The Water Tower Inn, formerly located at 800 North Michigan Avenue, was also later demolished.
