The jacket front photograph is a view on Eleuthera Island (Bahamas) of a sandy beach and open expanse of water framed by two palm trees; a woman in a bathing suit walks on the beach. The jacket back has two photographs of notable visitors to the Caribbean - one of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip accompanied by the Governor of the Bahamas, Sir Ralph Grey - and another of Lady Bird Johnson (then First Lady of the United States, as wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson) greeting the author in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The jacket back flap has a photograph of author Kjeld Helweg-Larsen.

Notes
:
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism contributed the jacket front photograph. Stanley Toogood and The Governor's News Bureau contributed the jacket back photographs. The jacket front photograph evokes one familiar image of the exotic, the edenic, long associated with representations of the Caribbean in the British book trade. This cover also invites the tourist, at a time when the British tourist industry was growing. Such images of the "paradise" of the Caribbean or the "tropics" in general appear in Victorian literature and travel writing, a period that marks the beginning of tourism as an industry. The photograph of visiting British royalty on the jacket back marks this association even more strongly.
