Industrial land and Montgomery Ward Company buildings
View to the east along West Chicago Avenue from west of the North Branch of the Chicago River, with the Chicago Avenue bridge visible. The land in the foreground was occupied by Consolidated Royal Chemical Corporation (657 West Chicago Avenue) and H. Goodman & Sons at the time of the photograph. The Montgomery Ward Catalog and Retail Sales building (Mail Order House), and the Montgomery Ward Administration building stand along the east bank of the river. The John Hancock Center is under construction in the distance.

Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters from North Kingsbury Street
View looking northwest along North Kingsbury Street from underneath the Ohio-Ontario Street bridge, towards the Montgomery Ward & Company headquarters (now The Montgomery condominiums). The warehouse in front of it with the word "Carron" on the south wall is now the Park Kingsbury Lofts (660 North Kingsbury Street). Further to the left, the top part of 520 West Erie is just visible below the rooftop water tower painted with an "Early Times" whiskey advertisement. Railroad tracks are visible in the right foreground, and signals for a level crossing stand at the intersection with West Ontario Street.

Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters and warehouses
View to north across the North Branch of the Chicago River from the Ohio-Ontario Street bridge towards the Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters (now The Montgomery condominiums, 535 West Chicago Avenue/ 500 West Superior Street). Several brick warehouse buildings are in front of it, including 520 West Erie Street (with windows removed) and 520 West Huron Street. Another warehouse to the right of these has a "Ronsley Center" sign mounted on the roof.

Mies van der Rohe office buildings and Illinois Center development
View to the west from the Chicago River, towards three Mies van der Rohe office buildings. Two Illinois Center (233 North Michigan Avenue) is on the left. One Illinois Center (111 East Wacker Drive) stands next to it on the right, with the Hyatt Regency Chicago I under construction in front of it. All three of these buildings are part of the Illinois Center complex, a development built on land formerly owned by the Illinois Central Railroad. The third Mies building, the IBM building (330 North Wabash) is next to the right, and the former Sun-Times building (demolished) is visible in front of its base. The Equitable Building is the next high-rise to the right. The Mandel Building (Mandel-Lear Building) formerly at 211 East North Water Street (demolished) is in front of the Equitable Building, and other storage and warehouse facilities are in the right foreground.
