West Huron and North Wells Streets
View looking southwest across West Huron Street from just east of the intersection with North Wells Street. The parking lot in the foreground, located along the east side of North Wells Street between West Huron and West Erie Streets, is still in existence (2017). A billboard in that parking lot advertises Newport cigarettes. To the left behind the billboard, the yellow and turquoise exterior of Ed Debevic's restaurant (640 North Wells Street, demolished) is visible. To the right of the billboard, the three story building with the brown brick front facade became part of the Hooters restaurant at 660 North Wells Street. Behind this building is North Branch II (311-313 West Superior Street), with a banner reading "The North Branch Center". The Merchandise Mart is in the distance at the far left.

View of the west side of North State Street from the intersection with Erie Street. Small businesses including a hair salong and barber shop are in the right foreground along East Erie Street. A residential building with a restaurant on its ground floor stands on West Erie Street at the northwest corner of North State Street (demolished). To the right of this building is the nineteenth-century Dana Hotel, located at 666 North State Street.

Across Ohio Street to the south are the Tokyo Hotel (17-19 East Ohio Street) and the Hotel Ohio East (now Comfort Inn and Suites) at 15 East Ohio Street. A large liquor advertisement for J&B Scotch is painted on the side wall of the Hotel Ohio East. The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile (540 North Michigan Avenue) is visible behind.

A parking lot with a large billboard celebrating the American Bicentennial is on the north side of Ohio Street between Wabash Avenue and Rush Street. The office and commercial building in the center of the image stood at 100 East Ohio Street. Olson Rug occupied the ground floor at the time of the photograph. The 625 North Michigan building rises behind it. The Croydon Hotel (now The James Hotel) is at the far left, and the St. Clair hotel (formerly at 162 East Ohio Street) is at the far right.
