Industrial area along Chicago River at North Halsted Street
View of an industrial area along the North Branch of the Chicago River, looking west from the North Halsted Street bridge at the southern end of Goose Island. Part of the facilities of the Material Service Corporation (later Prairie Material, Ready Mix Yard No. 32), located on the west bank of the river (835 North Peoria Street) are visible in the foreground and on the left. The North Branch of the Chicago River, which flows along the west side of Goose Island, is visible near the center, as well as a group of concrete storage silos (demolished). The Lissner Corporation plant, located on North Branch Street on Goose Island (later Kendall College), is on the right.

Chicago Tribune Freedom Center under construction
View of the Chicago Tribune printing plant under construction, looking northeast from West Erie Street at North Union Avenue. The plant, named the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center, is located adjacent to the west bank of the North Branch of the Chicago River at 777 West Chicago Avenue. Visible to the right of it are the Montgomery Ward Catalog and Retail Sales building (Mail Order House), the Montgomery Ward Administration building, and the Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters tower (now The Montgomery condominiums, 535 West Chicago Avenue/ 500 West Superior Street).

Industrial areas along the North Branch of the Chicago River
View northwest along the North Branch of the Chicago River from the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza Hotel (350 W. Mart Center Drive). The West Grand Avenue bridge, and the Ohio Street bridge directly behind it, span the river. A tugboat with a barge attached is moored along the west bank of the river, adjacent to an industrial area. A number of industrial buildings, including the Wallace Press Building, and Kirchheimer Brothers Paper Company (417 West Ohio Street) stand along North Kingsbury Street on the east side of the river. The Montgomery Ward Catalog and Retail Sales building (Mail Order House) and the Montgomery Ward Administration building are further north, along the east bank of the river. The Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters tower rises to their right. At the far left, multiple railroad tracks are visible.

The Lissner name has been painted over with "Batcheld..." in this photograph. Across the river, part of the facilities of the Material Service Corporation (later Prairie Material, Ready Mix Yard No. 32) located at 835 North Peoria Street, are visible.

View looking north along the North Branch of the Chicago River from north of West Division Street. On the left is the Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing Company factory (demolished). Beyond that, a coal yard and coal barge are visible at the riverfront. In the distance is the red brick Procter & Gamble plant (demolished) with its two smokestacks. At the far right part is a Peoples Gas Light & Coke Company gas holder, part of the former Willow Street Station Manufactured Gas Plant Site (demolished).

Goose Island is on the right; the concrete storage silos and loading dock facilities belonging to the Penn-Dixie Industries cement distribution facility (now demolished) are prominently visible. The twin spires of Holy Trinity Church are just visible against the sky in the distance.

Wolf Point, Apparel Center and Merchandise Mart
View looking northwest from the west Loop over the west part of the Near North Side. The top of the telescoping tower of 188 West Randolph Street (Steuben Club Building) is in the foreground at the bottom center. The Apparel Center and the Merchandise Mart are behind that. To the left across the river from the Apparel Center is the North American Cold Storage Company warehouse (seen before renovation as the Fulton House Condominiums). The Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters tower (now The Montgomery condominiums) stands out in the distance on the right.

View northwest along the North Branch of the Chicago River from the West Division Street Bridge. The Druth Packaging Corporation building, located Goose Island (demolished), is on the right. The Morton Salt warehouse (1357 North Elston Avenue) is near the center of the image. The New Metal Crafts, Inc. warehouse (1308 North Elston Avenue) , with a large painted advertisement for Smirnoff vodka is to the left of it. The St. Stanislaus Kostka Church (1351 West Evergreen Avenue) is on the far left.
